2011 YH40 Goldstone Radar Observations Planning
Range resolution = 15 meters
2011 YH40 was discovered by the Catalina Sky Survey on December 29, 2011. This asteroid has diameter ~0.11 km (within a factor of two) and it is making a close approach to Earth (0.0138 AU, or ~5.4 lunar distances) on January 16, 2012. We have two tracks scheduled at Goldstone just prior to the closest approach. 2011 YH40 will be a moderately strong radar target at Goldstone and we hope to obtain some 1/8 usec images and 5 and 10 MHz chirping. It is likely that the object will have a bandwidth of ~5 Hz. 2011 YH40 is an excellent optical target until the second part of January, when it moves too close to the Sun.
