Goldstone Radar Observations Planning: (441987) 2010 NY65, 2022 LV, and 2022 MP


Background


(441987) 2010 NY65
2010 NY65 was discovered by the WISE spacecraft on July 14, 2010.  Data obtained
by the mission suggests a diameter of about 230 meters and a dark optical albedo
of about 0.07.  The rotation period is 4.98 hours and the lightcurve amplitude
is relatively low, suggesting a shape with low elongation.  

This asteroid has been observed extensively with radar during previous apparitions,
and as a result, the orbit has very small uncertainties.  We plan to reduce the orbital
uncertainties further, which should increase the SNR of the Yarkovsky effect
detection reported for this object, and improve constraints on its mass and density.
Previous radar imaging at Arecibo has revealed a rounded object roughly 300 meters
in diameter.   Given the absolute magnitude of 21.4, the diameter corresponds to 
a dark optical albedo of about 0.06.

NY65 will be a weak strong radar target in 2022 suitable for CW observations
and ranging but not detailed imaging.  Time is scheduled at Goldstone between June 24-28.

2022 provides the last chance for radar observations of 2010 NY65 using current
capabilities for 157 years.


2022 LV 2022 LV was discovered on June 4, 2022 by Pan-STARRS 2. This object has an absolute magnitude of 26.0, suggesting a diameter within a factor of two of 20 meteres, but otherwise its physical properties are unknown. Update: Petr Pravec reports a candidate rotation period of about 3 minutes and lightcurve amplitude of 0.35 mag. Additional photometry is needed to confirm these results. The view periods overlap time previously scheduled for 2010 NY65 on June 24-28. We anticipate signal-to-noise ratios strong enough for delay-Doppler imaging at 3.75 m resolution. 2022 LV is on the NHATS list of mission-accessible targets.
2022 MP 2022 MP was discovered on 2022 June 21 at ATLAS-Mauna Loa on Hawai'i. This object will approach within 0.017 au on June 27 when it should be detectable with radar at Goldstone at times previously scheduled for observations of 2010 NY65. The absolute magnitude is about 24, which suggests a diameter within a factor of two of about 50 meters. Nothing else is known about its physical properties.
