Goldstone Radar Observations Planning: 2001 EA16 and 2011 TB4
2001 EA16 2001 EA16 was discovered by JPL's Near-Earth Asteroid Tracking (NEAT) program on March 4, 2001. This object will approach within 0.091 AU on October 7 when it should be strong enough to detect with radar at Goldstone. Very little is known about the physical properties of 2001 EA16, but its absolute magnitude of 16.8 suggests a diameter within a factor of two of 1.4 km. 2011 TB4 This object was discovered by the Mt. Lemmon Survey in 2011, tracked for a few days, and then lost until it was rediscovered in early October 2014. With an absolute magnitude of 25.5, this object is roughly 25 m in diameter. Consequently, we expect that it should be detectable but we aren't expecting SNRs strong enough for high-resolution imaging. The view periods for 2011 TB4 overlap time already scheduled for 2001 EA16. One track to observe these objects is scheduled at Goldstone on October 9. Four tracks are scheduled at Arecibo from Oct 11-14. SNRs at Goldstone should be strong enough for CW and ranging observations, but probably not for imaging. SNRs at Arecibo should be strong enough for intermediate resolution imaging.
