(192642) 1999 RD32 Goldstone Radar Observations Planning

Background


(192642) 1999 RD32 was discovered by LINEAR at Socorro on September 8, 1999. 
Arecibo radar imaged this object on Mar 5-6, 2012 and discovered that 1999 RD32 is a very large (~5 km diameter),
slow rotator (P~100 h) with SNRs 20 times what was initially estimated. 
The delay-Doppler images are clearly showing two lobes and only more data will reveal if 1999 RD32 is a binary 
or a contact binary asteroid. We expect to observe bandwidth between 3 to 7 Hz at Goldstone.

1999 RD32 has Tisserand parameter of 2.87 that suggest a potential cometary origin of this object. 
Given its absolute magnitude and the measured size, its optical albedo should be on the order of few percent.
The next comparable radar opportunity will not occur before 2042.

1999 RD32 is currently very bright optical target (~15 mag), but it will soon be too close to the Sun. It will again
become observable at the end of July.
