Goldstone Radar Observations Planning: 2015 FW117
Goldstone range-Doppler images of 2015 FW117 obtained on 2015 April 01. Resolution is 3.75 m x 0.05 Hz. Range increases towards the bottom and Doppler frequency increases to the right. Time increases from left to right and then top to bottom. The images span an interval of about 20 minutes and show very little rotation of this object. The round-trip time was about 10 seconds.
This is a planning page for asteroid 2015 FW117 in April 2015. 2015 FW117 2015 FW117 was discovered on 2015 Mar 24 by the Catalina Sky Survey. It has an absolute magnitude of 22.8 suggesting a diameter of roughly 90 m, but otherwise its physical properties are unknown. The asteroid is expected to be an excellent radar target with an approach distance of within 0.01 AU of Earth on 2015 Apr 01. We expect to obtain radar echo spectra and range-Doppler images of this object at Goldstone (X-band, 3.5 cm wavelength). The object will be brighter than 15th magnitude and have a solar elongation of ~150 degrees on 2015 Apr 01.
