2007 LE Goldstone Radar Observations Planning


Background


2007 LE was discovered at the Lincoln Laboratory ETS (LINEAR), New Mexico on June 7, 2007. 
Not much is known about this object except its absolute magnitude of 19.1, which suggests a diameter of ~470 m (within a factor of two).
2007 LE belongs to the Apollo class of asteroids and it has a relatively high inclination (29.5 deg) and eccentricity (0.5).
It will approach Earth on June 2, 2012 at 18.6 lunar distances (0.048 AU). This asteroid will be a moderately strong radar target at Goldstone 
and an excellent target at Arecibo.

2007 LE will be a very bright optical target (~14 mag) in early June and our radar observations would greatly benefit
from lightcurves and spectroscopy. 

2007 LE has been classified as a "Potentially Hazardous Asteroid" by the Minor Planet Center.

Goldstone observations on each track revealed that 2007 LE is a binary system.

Including last night's DSS-14 delay/Doppler astrometry with 
some new optical (now 176 optical measurements 2001-Dec-20 to 
2012-May-31), 2007 LE orbit solution #35 was estimated. OSOD 
and predicts have been updated for DSS-14 and Arecibo.

Any prior solutions in the directories have been moved to an 
/OLD sub-directory to reduce clutter.
