2005 GC120 Goldstone Radar Observations Planning
2005 GC120 was discovered on April 12, 2005 by the Catalina Sky Survey in Arizona. This object has an absolute magnitude of 19.6, suggesting a diameter within a factor of two of 380 meters. 2005 GC120 has eccentric (e~0.5) and inclined (i~16.5 deg) orbit that crosses orbits of Venus, Earth, and Mars. 2005 GC120 will approach within 0.043 AU (~16.9 lunar distances) on Dec. 1, 2010, when it will be a moderate radar target. For optical observations, 2005 GC120 is too close to the Sun until Nov. 29, when it emerges as a 17.6 mag object at southern declinations. Goldstone radar observations are scheduled on Nov. 30 and Dec. 4. THE TRACK ON DECEMBER 4 HAS BEEN CANCELLED DUE TO PROBLEMS WITH THE AZIMUTH BEARING. 2005 GC120 has been classified as a "Potentially Hazardous Asteroid" by the Minor Planet Center.
