2005 ED318 Planning
2005 ED318 was discovered by LONEOS (Lowell Observatory in Flagstaff, AZ) on March 10, 2005. It will approach within 0.016 AU (6.3 lunar distances) on May 23. On May 16, Petr Pravec (Ondrejov Observatory, Czech Republic) reported that lightcurves obtained by Ron Dyvig, Vishnu Reddy, Adrian Galad, Walt Cooney, John Gross, Dick Terrell, and Felix Hormuth yield a rotation period of 17.15 hours. Mike Nolan detected 2005 ED318 at Arecibo on May 12 and 13 and obtained an S-band bandwidth of only about 0.2 Hz, which is consistent with the rotation period and the expected diameter of roughly 250 meters.
Goldstone tracks are scheduled on May 20, 23, 24, 25 and 27. Additional Observations are scheduled at Arecibo on May 29, 30, and 31. Due to its size and the proximity of its orbit to Earth's, 2005 ED318 has been classified as a "Potentially Hazardous Asteroid" by the Minor Planet Center.
