2000 CO101 Goldstone Radar Observations Planning


Background


2000 CO101 was discovered on Feb 08 2000 by  LINEAR - Lincoln Laboratory ETS in New Mexico.  
It will approach within 0.046 AU (~18 lunar distances) on September 17. We only have rough estimate
of its size (within factor of two of 0.55 km) based on its absolute visual magnitude of 19. 
Radar SNRs were calculated assuming very fast rotation period of 2.2 hours. 
This gives us a lower bound on the object's SNRs. 

2000 CO101 is in the Xk taxonomic class, so it may be made of metal.  If so,
then it will be one of only a small number of metallic NEAs ever observed by radar
and the SNRs could be several times stronger than those listed below.

Goldstone observations are scheduled on Sep. 18-21 and Arecibo observations 
are scheduled on Sep. 25-29.

2000 CO101 has been classified as a "Potentially Hazardous Asteroid" by the 
Minor Planet Center.
